Dwarf Meyer Lemon Tree - LOVING IT! Review by Vermont Gardener

Last year I purchased my tree via QVC but from Robertas Garden. At the time there were mixed reviews but I had done a lot of research about growing Meyer Lemon Trees as a house plant and I felt confident that I could do this. Nearly a year later and its going VERY WELL! I recently harvested the first two lemons and wow - how great are they! I can't believe the juice and flavor they contain even though they are smaller then the ones I purchase in the grocery store. I made a special Lemon Biscotti with my first two using the zest and the juice. I've saved the pulp for something else still. I will definitely not be wasting anything on these beauties! I live in VT where its mostly zone 4 but knowing how bitter the Winters can be I usually look for zone 5 plants. This tree was on my back patio where it had lots of sun all last Summer and I brought it inside in about September when the evenings and days were no longer a consistent 60 F. She has wintered very well in a room that receives good bright light (thought not ALL day light) and is quite warm due to the pellet stove running all the time. I keep it watered only letting it just dry out a bit in between so its not over watered (about every other day on average). I had lots and lots of flowers on it last Summer but only about a dozen set for fruit. Now that some of the fruit has been harvested on it I intent to prune it back a bit in the Spring to encourage the growth where I would desire it to be. I did fertilize it last Summer when it was growing and flowering constantly. I would say its due for some more that Spring is on its way. It sounds like a fussy plant but overall I would say its been very simple to keep. I wish I could add photos of it. I also did wipe the leaves off in the Winter as they got a little dusty.
As for the Biscotti - it tasted AMAZING! Looking forward to the next ripe ones (probably around Easter) and the next recipe.

I'm loving this one. The tree is so healthy and now (wintertime) is producing lots of fruit. The blossoms are so fragrant and makes my sunporch smell delightful.

The only thing not mentioned about this, especially growing with young children or pets around, VERY THORNY! I think this should be made clear because the thorns are so big. Not a problem for me though, but maybe for someone else who purchases this.

I ordered this over the summer and I've been very pleased with it. This item arrived perfectly packaged and was the best in the best condition of all the plants I had ordered. I watered regularly over summer and water once a week now inside. Many, many white very fragrant blooms have formed. Love that! Hope I get lemons....
